Turkey: Urgent Protection and Resilience Programme – Phase VI – TUR912

With a total refugee population of 4 million, Turkey hosts the highest number of refugees in the world. More than 3.6 million are registered Syrian refugees and close to 320,000 are refugees or asylum seekers from other countries. Due to severe prolonged economic hardship, some refugee families are forced to adopt strategies with particularly negative protection outcomes including child, early and forced marriage, child labour, begging, and informal and unsafe employment. Socio-economic deprivation and reliance on negative coping strategies, e.g. children begging, also increase vulnerabilities vis-à-vis exploitation and trafficking.

Overall Objective

To strengthen the protection of vulnerable refugees and to promote their integration into government systems.

Specific Objective

To strengthen the capacities of marginalized refugee women, men, girls, and boys in Gaziantep, Şanliurfa and Adana to identify, prevent, mitigate, and recover from age, gender, disability and diversity-specific protection risks.

Expected Results

ER1: Vulnerable, at-risk refugee women, men, girls, and boys have access to tailored information that helps them identify, prevent, and mitigate protection risks.

ER2: Vulnerable refugee women, men, girls, and boys have access to tailored services and assistance that help them mitigate and recover from protection concerns that directly affect them.

ER3: Protection actors coordinate and collaborate effectively to deliver harmonized, comprehensive response and joint, evidence-based advocacy.

Main Activities

Conduct KAP baseline (where necessary) and endline survey
Protection information provision through Information Protection Spaces
Protection information provision through Protection Outreach teams and Community Activators
Design and implementation of Sports-for-Development activities
Facilitation of Young Women’s Empowerment Clubs
Establish and engage Community Steering Committees
Refine and promote Case Management methodology for child protection cases
Protection service provision through the Protection Helpline
Provision of gender- and age-responsive Case Management services
Provision of gender- and age-responsive Individual Protection Assistance
Provision of legal assistance, advice, and referral for 300 cases.
Development of a learning agenda through a participatory multi-stakeholder process.
Conducting one study with local Educational Institutions. The study focused on child protection (child labour or child begging).
Facilitate coordination among protection actors at local, regional, and national level.
Lead on coordinated/joint advocacy at local, regional, national, and EU/international level, based on evidence from studies conducted under the Action.
